Cali to Cali, Colombia

California to Cali | Monday, November 21 |

On the heels of the Long Beach stop of the International Motorcycle Show, a long day steeped in visiting friends, corporate reps and new model releases, I wing off this month towards the equator… to my 19th country and first visit to South America. There I will join the Motolombia touring company on their “Big Loop” tour, encompassing almost the entire free travel zone…  as much of the landscape is either amazonian jungle or too riddled with the armed conflict to safely travel. None-the-less, the next 16 days should be a whirlwind blast!

Duty Free Selfies?

Duty Free Selfies?

With the number times someone made a joke about cocaine when mentioning my upcoming tour, approaching the number of miles I’ve ridden this year, I feel like Don Johnson will be on this trip with me….      The times are changing down there though, the political landscape is also changing and the ride should be more fun than trouble, or so I hope.

This time of year, when the clocks change, the sun begins to set just after lunch and Christmas sales begin with candy sales in October, it’ll be a refreshing change to travel this close to the equator. I have yet to experience it, but I’ve read that the sun sets and rises on the 6’s, AM then PM, all year round. A unusual consistency that might be kinda fun. In comparison to my recent fall ride south from Alaska, surfing along with the changing of the leaves, and each day’s sunset getting more rapidly approaching than if I were standing still, I welcome the regularity!

Pending network availability for the next two weeks, I’ll be riding and reporting almost daily from the “other” America, the Southern one. The one that doesn’t have chicken and waffles as it’s national dish. Follow along on Instagram, Pinterest, Delorme InReach for a live view of the action, and on Rever after each ride… More importantly, you’ll soon be able to read these travelogs on the Motorcyclist website as well, woo hoo! But look for Morocco first!
