Rendezvous in the Sky – RoadBike Oct 2012 [Advance]

Mark your calendars for the last weekend of August and point your handlebars toward the high sierras of California and Nevada. If you’re not already familiar with the popular lakeside ski-town of Lake Tahoe, be prepared to learn a lot right now. Historically known for the gold & silver rushes of the 19th century, volcanic and glacial land events to modern day entertainment, this “Lake in the Sky” offers everything from rock concerts to rock climbing, black diamond descents to decreasing radii. And from August 23rd thru the 26th, you can add the 1st Annual Lake Tahoe Adventure Motorcycle Ride & Rendezvous to the list of reasons to visit.

High above lakes Tahoe and Spooner, I wonder where the next road will take me.

This is the version of California I fell in love with in 1977. I was only 7 years old but knew someday I’d be back to enjoy the high mountain life and 30 some years later I’m closer but not quite there. Not yet anyway! With its mixed pine and redwood forests, composed granite and pine needle floor, and house-sized boulders lying around, it’s a sportsman’s paradise. And having recently toured the area on a BMW 1200 GS Adventure, I would suggest you add motorcycling to the list of must dos.

You can read the rest of the story on the newsstand soon!

Standing among the event organizers, fellow journos and I stop to enjoy the lakeshore Tallac site.

Cresting 8300-feet above sea level, Monitor Pass is just one of many mountain passes in the area.

Keep Tahoe Blue is the local's motto, and now i know why!

Offering both paved and unpaved routes, the TAM event is sure to please!

And that's what the 'escape' is all about... beauty!
